Amblyopia is a vision development disorder, commonly called “lazy eye.”
It is a condition in which one eye (or rarely both eyes) has reduced vision because the brain does not use that eye properly during early childhood, even though the eye itself may look normal.
Why it happens: During childhood (usually birth to 7–8 years), the brain learns to see.If one eye sends a blurred or poor-quality image, the brain starts ignoring that eye, and vision does not develop normally.
Common causes:
Refractive amblyopia-
-Large uncorrected power difference between the two eyes (anisometropia)
-High refractive error in both eyes
Strabismic amblyopia-
-Squint / eye misalignment (brain suppresses one eye to avoid double vision)
Deprivation amblyopia (most severe)
-Congenital cataract
-Ptosis (droopy eyelid)
-Corneal opacity
Symptoms:
Poor vision in one eye, Eye turning in or out, Child may not complain (very common), Poor depth perception.
Important points: Not correctable by glasses alone once critical age is passed. Best treated early (before 15 years). If untreated, vision loss can be permanent.
Treatment:
-Correct refractive error (Glasses, Contact Lens)
-Treat underlying cause (cataract surgery, squint correction)
Then Best treatment is Customised Vision Therapy (Software+Physical tool)

Amblyopia develops in childhood, but its effects continue into adulthood if not treated early. Treatment works best in children, but some improvement is possible in adults with modern therapies.
Signs may include: Poor vision in one eye, Eye turning in or out, Closing one eye while reading, Poor school performance, Frequent eye rubbing
👉 Many children show no symptoms, so eye check-ups are essential.
It is treatable, not “curable” overnight.
Vision can be significantly improved with proper treatment and regular follow-up.
Amblyopia does not cause total blindness, but permanent low vision can occur if untreated.
Vision Therapy is a structured, supervised program of eye–brain exercises designed to improve how the eyes and brain work together. It helps the weaker eye develop better vision and coordination.
In amblyopia patients, Vision Therapy may improve: Reading speed, Concentration, Visual comfort during near work
Cost varies based on: Severity of amblyopia, Duration of therapy, Type of equipment used
-It is an investment in lifelong vision improvement.
If untreated, amblyopia can affect: Depth perception , Career options (driving, defense, aviation, etc.) Treating it early protects your child’s visual future.
